We never talked about the police incident involving former United States tennis star James Blake, but let’s recap briefly. James Blake was outside a hotel in Manhattan. He was waiting for his car service to the U.S. Open. A plain clothes officer ran up on him, and took him down aggressively, never showing a badge or identifying himself.

Blake, in the days after said he didn’t think race was a factor, but believed that the officer should be fired from his job. This led to a response from, Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch. You can read the response below.

If you’re not from New York you probably don’t know who Ed Mullins is, and you’re probably thinking, why should I care who is?

Ed Mullins is President of the New York Sergeants Benevolent Association, and on Monday, Mullins in a memo to 12,000 current and retired NY police officers launched a picture taking program that would have officers, on their way to and from work, take pictures of the cities wonderful people. You can read part of the memo obtained by PIX11 News

“As you travel about the City of New York, please utilize your smart phones to photograph the homeless lying in our streets, aggressive panhandlers, people urinating in public or engaging in open-air drug activity, and quality of life offenses of every type,” Mullins continued “All photos will be posted on the Peek-A-Boo page on our website and our sergeants will notify our public officials in writing of what is being observed,” Mullins wrote. “We will refer issues to the proper agencies, and we will help create accountability equally across the board.”

Eric Garner is sadly just another victim to police brutality in the United States. On Thursday, July 17, 2014 Eric Garner lost his life at the hands of the NYPD. In the video clip below, you can see the confrontation.  Warning, the video is graphic, a man does die in the end.

 

 

There are enough statistics to go around to show the injustices that take place in black & brown communities when it comes to police brutality. That however doesn’t matter here. A 43-year-old father of six, and grandfather to two more was killed in broad daylight, and nothing is being done about it.

The NYPD placed officer Daniel Pantaleo on desk duty, while stripping him of his gun and badge, police said. This is the punishment for taking another mans life.

But whether you get pulled over for your condoms depends solely on what category you fit in the eyes of the law.

For many years the use of condoms as evidence in prostitution cases has been a contest of debate for many years by sex workers activist. But the question is should this even be the case?

With HIV affecting millions of people throughout our country should citizens ever fear carrying condoms? Well if the possibility of being mistaken for a prostitute is a possible result our nightmares may just be beginning.

No matter your moral or religious stance on the issue of condoms. The infringing of citizens rights by authority is what should push you or at least scare you. Whether or not it does just think how many condoms you have ever carried?
