The 17-year spell, broken

For 17 years a woman hasn’t topped Billboard’s alternative songs chart, Ella Yelich-O’Connor has broken the streak.

Only 16 years old Yelich-O’Connor, going by the stage name Lorde, is the hottest thing out of New Zealand. Her single “Royals”  hit No.1 on Billboard Alternative Songs chart this week. No other woman has done this in 17 years. The chart hasn’t seen a strong female presence since the 90’s and hasn’t been led by a woman since 1996.

Signed to universal at the age of 12, Lorde released her first EP, “The Love Club,” earlier this year and is expected to release her first studio album later this year.

I believe we can expect a lot more hits from this young lady.
